Origins and Vision
Return to Sender was a vibrant, collaborative postcard art project that brought together creativity, community, and compassion. Spanning over 18 months from January 2022 to July 2023, the project engaged people of all ages and backgrounds to create and share postcards as expressions of connection, hope, and creativity.
Project Overview
The initiative successfully raised £2,500 for YouthAbility, a charity supporting young people with additional needs. Generously funded by the Eric Wright Charitable Trust, the Asda Foundation, and BarrowFull, the project invited participation from 40 different groups, involving schools, community organizations, and individuals across the area.
Over the course of the project, more than 1,000 postcards were created—each one a small but powerful piece of art reflecting personal stories, imagination, and shared experiences.
The Exhibition
The project culminated in a highly successful exhibition held at The Cookes Studios on Abbey Road, from 20–29 July 2023. The exhibition attracted over 500 visitors—and even 3 dogs—who came to admire the incredible variety and creativity on display.
The exhibition not only celebrated artistic achievement but also fostered a sense of community pride and joy. Attendees left heartfelt messages about their experience:
